What is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound (UB) is a game-changing program designed just for high school students who want to go to college—but could use some extra support to make it happen. If you're motivated and ready to level up your future, UB gives you the tools, skills, and opportunities to get there.

Who do we serve?

Eligibility Requirements:​

Upward Bound is designed to help students from underserved groups excel in college. The NCCC UB program is limited to 55 high-achieving students across Chanute, Humboldt, Erie, and Iola High Schools.​

​

Eligible Students:

1. Come from a family with limited income

(based on federal guidelines)

and/or

2. Come from a family where neither parent holds a

bachelor's (4-year) degree.

and

3. Are US citizens, permanent residents, or can show

intent to become a permanent resident

Student Expectations:

  • Must be an active participant in all activities (school visits, Once-a-month Saturday workshops/trips, and the 6-week Summer Academy)

  • Must be planning to continue education toward a college degree ​

  • Stay in "Good Standing" with their high school​

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5

  • Maintain contact and communicate with Upward Bound staff​

The mission of Upward Bound is to boost the number of participants who not only complete their secondary education but also take the exciting leap into post-secondary institutions and graduate with flying colors!

The Upward Bound Program at Neosho County Community College is 100 percent federally funded by the United States Department of Education, with an annual budget of $309,505 to serve 55 students. Award # P047A221025.
